How to change or remove password from protected PST File in Outlook for Windows

Do you wish to remove a password from a protected PST file in outlook for windows? Are you tired of inputting the password every time you open outlook? Do you no longer wish to keep the pst file password protected?



When a pst file is password protected and added into outlook, every time outlook is launched it asks for a password to open it. It might get inconvenient to enter a password each time outlook is run. You may follow the steps below to remove password protection from a pst file:
  • Open outlook
  • Enter the password to open pst file if prompted
  • Right click on desired pst file in left hand side folder pane
  • Click on Data File Properties
  • Click on Advanced button in Properties window
  • Click Change Password button.
  • Type your old password in the Old password field.
  • In the new password and verify password fields, do not enter anything if you wish to remove password
  • Click on OK on each window to save password changes
Alternatively, you may also perform necessary changes from File menu
  • Click on File to open file menu
  • Click on Account settings -> Account settings…
  • Click on Data Files tab
  • Click on Settings
  • Click Change Password button.
  • Type your old password in the Old password field.
  • In the new password and verify password fields, do not enter anything if you wish to remove password
  • Click on OK on each window to save password changes
